Tesla Holds All Bitcoin in Q2 with No Sales Reported

In the latest earnings call on July 22, Tesla, a company owned by Elon Musk, revealed that it is holding all its Bitcoin in the second quarter of 2026 by keeping its long-term position as part of its company treasury.

The electric car maker confirmed this in its Q2 earnings report on July 22, which shows that the company is sticking with a “HODL” strategy despite turmoil in the cryptocurrency market.

Tesla Holds Steady on Bitcoin Despite Turmoil in Market

In its earnings filings, Tesla revealed that it did not buy or sell any crypto during the second quarter. Its Bitcoin holdings stayed the same at 11,509 BTC. The value on its balance sheet changed based on market prices, with Tesla booking unrealized gains or losses under fair-value accounting instead of locking them in through sales.

The company has held its reduced BTC stack steady since selling off a big portion in earlier years. Tesla originally bought 43,200 BTC in early 2021 for about $1.5 billion, but cut those holdings in 2022. Since then, it has kept the current level, treating Bitcoin as a long-term treasury asset rather than a short-term trading tool.

At the end of Q2 2026, Tesla’s 11,509 BTC was worth hundreds of millions due to exact value changes during the volatility in the crypto market. The company paid about $386 million for its current holdings in order to stay in a profitable position during volatility in the crypto market.

Tesla is valuing these assets by using updated accounting rules.

In Q2 2026 earnings, Tesla mentioned strong operational performance even though it missed some profit expectations. In the second quarter, the company managed to hit $28.24 billion in revenue. This revenue is higher than the prediction of analysts, which was around $26.3 billion, due to growth in vehicle sales, energy storage, and services. Apart from this, automotive revenue soared year-over-year on higher production and sales.

Despite the bloodbath in the crypto market, in which BTC plunged below $55,000, most crypto treasuries have kept their holdings untouched.

For example, Strategy recently raised around  $225 million while keeping its BTC stash as it is. Most of the money will be used to boost its USD cash reserves to support operations and maintain credit quality for its financial products. This will allow Strategy to buy BTC when opportunities arise without selling its existing holdings, even as it grows its treasury.

On October 14, 2025, Elon Musk stated that “Bitcoin is based on energy: you can issue fake fiat currency, and every government in history has done so, but it is impossible to fake energy.”

Bitcoin ETFs Record $900 Million in Inflows Following 6-Day Streak

Yesterday, BTC price witnessed a small spike following steady inflows in BTC exchange-traded funds (ETFs), helping the cryptocurrency soar above $66,000. However, the cryptocurrency failed to hold its value above this level. At the time of writing, BTC is trading at around $65,940 with a market capitalization of $1.38 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows for 7 consecutive days through July 22, 2026. This is one of the biggest inflow streaks since earlier this year. According to data from Farside, the funds recorded more than $930 million in inflows.

The streak comes after major outflows in June and early July, triggering a massive crash in the crypto market. It will reduce year-to-date net outflows while increasing cumulative inflows since inception above $51 billion.

Apart from this, on July 22, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis unveiled the full text of the updated draft of the CLARITY Act bill after negotiating ethics provisions with President Donald Trump. The revised bill includes a temporary ban that prevents senior officials, like the president and members of Congress, from issuing digital assets. This sunset rule will expire on January 20, 2029.
