Pontoro Inc. has announced the launch of its first Automated Liquidity Pool (ALP) on the Stellar blockchain network, aiming to unite highly liquid cash reserves with traditionally illiquid private market vehicles. The project is structured as a unified investment instrument, bringing together money market assets and private market funds within a flexible, rules-based pricing mechanism.
The project, in collaboration with the Stellar Development Foundation and digital asset platform Archax, presents a new approach to the structure of tokenized finance. Blockchain technology has successfully digitized fiat currencies, stablecoins, and cash equivalents, but the ability to buy and sell private market interests has proven to be a structural challenge.
Pontoro’s Dual-Sleeve Model: Combining Money Markets and Private Equity
The vehicle’s design has been divided into two internal mechanisms, known as sleeves. The first sleeve is the liquid one, housing cash-equivalent money market instruments, and the second sleeve is the private equity or private credit placements.
Under the oversight of an appointed fund manager, Pontoro’s underlying software coordinates asset conversions. Stakeholders can opt to redeem their holdings directly from this pool, depending on the availability of capital and the discretion of the fund manager.
To adjust for continuous pricing, the system will recalculate the price of each asset according to the current volume of available capital. The platform automatically adjusts for a wider discount on private placements when the cash-like value of the pool decreases as a result of asset purchases. On the other hand, when the capital reserves recover, this pricing discount will decrease in the same way, leaving the manager’s independent asset evaluation separate from the cost of liquidity.
Managing Redemptions and Balancing Capital Incentives
The double-sleeve structure will change the way that investors exit the deal. When participants try to redeem their pool interests, the initial demand is taken up by the liquid cash part, protecting the underlying private market investments from forced sale.
If these liquid reserves are completely exhausted, redemptions may be adjusted, deferred, or temporarily suspended as outlined in the fund guidelines. The system has features programmed into the rules to balance out capital drains by adjusting yield distributions and pricing structures. This adjustment renders capital injection more profitable for external parties, attracting capital that pushes the balance of the pool back toward the target.
“The Stellar network was built for real-world assets, and liquidity is the layer that turns tokenized private funds into a working market,” said Jose Fernandez da Ponte, President & Chief Growth Officer of the Stellar Development Foundation. “The ALP aims to show what is possible when cash, credit and tokenization meet on the same open network.”

Regulated Tokenized Issuance and Institutional Distribution Channels
Liquidity limitations are often considered one of the significant challenges in the asset management industry for capital formation and broader asset allocation. The platform will provide greater transparency about pricing movements and liquidity status, thereby creating new distribution channels for fund managers and keeping liquidity within a fund’s ecosystem.
As part of the initial pilot, the structure uses tokenised funds, transforming investor interests into permissioned tokens that are issued by Archax on the Stellar network, regulated by the UK, EU and US. These digital tokens are stored in trusted, verified wallets, which provide investors with a single asset to represent a managed portfolio, and an embedded liquidation engine.
According to a research study by Pontoro of 500 people, professionals picked up the basic mechanics of the pool design within a few minutes of reading it.
The results indicated that the real obstacle to market entry is not the lack of understanding, but rather the need for a history of operations that are visible and proof of execution and institutional sponsorship. These specific requirements are met by the active pilot, which shows how these six operational functions (network rails, cash assets, private investments, token issuance, institutional operations, and liquidity design) work together.
Pontoro is responsible for the technological infrastructure, mathematical modelling, and the operation of the baseline platform, while the institutional managers have absolute control over the asset selection, value, and governance.
