- Pi Network collaborated with Open Standard to explore the rewards and utility of stablecoins on the OUSD platform in the Pi Web3 ecosystem.
- On October 13, 2026, Pi Network announced the deadline for node operators to upgrade to Protocol 28 ahead of the Pi Network Mainnet launch on October 16.
- PI price faces 13% downside risk as bears gave a bearish breakdown below the support trendline of the channel pattern.
The Pi Network coin price shows a slight uptick of 1.5% to $0.082 on Friday, October 9th. The market is still waiting for some significant updates, such as the OUSD partnership and the activation of the Protocol 28 Mainnet, which have made investor sentiment cautious. The timing of this technical upgrade is being watched closely, as it will likely have a large effect on the price of the token above its current lows near $0.07.
Pi Network Partners With Open Standard to Explore OUSD Rewards
Pi Network has signed a strategic partnership with Open Standard, the governing body of the recently launched Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin. The partnership was revealed on September 30th, 2026, and brings Pi together with an institutional network of more than 200 payments and tech companies, including Visa, Google, Mastercard, and Stripe.
As part of the deal, the Pi Core Team will work on incentivizing its “Pioneers” via OUSD-based reward systems and add a stablecoin utility to reduce transaction friction throughout its Web3 portfolio. OUSD spans several large public chains, such as Ethereum and Solana, providing a multi-chain bridge for Pi’s infrastructure.
But the announcement doesn’t answer important execution questions. The team hasn’t released details on live integration dates, incentive programs, or the role the native PI token will play with OUSD. Finally, the challenge is not only technical, but also in getting all of Pi’s 17 million KYC-verified users to transition into a profitable and sustainable ecosystem.
Pi Network Approaches Protocol 28 Mainnet Activation
Pi Network has set the final timeline for the highly anticipated transition to Protocol 28. The Pi Core Team has set October 13, 2026, as the final deadline for node operators to upgrade their software and prepare for the official Mainnet activation on October 16, 2026.
The update brings a number of fundamental engineering changes, which have been tested successfully on the Testnet so far. These include optimized handling of transaction data delays, batch smart-contract upgrade capabilities, and enhanced security controls over application data storage.
However, these impressive architectural enhancements are a long way from proving network economics. While a smoother back end makes it easier for developers to build, there is not much use for technical documentation without a strong customer base. The ultimate challenge is to get enough global node operators on the new software before the October 13 deadline, or else the planned activation timeline will be in jeopardy.
Once the network successfully transitions, the metric for long-term viability shifts entirely from technical versioning to real-world deployment. The successful mainnet activities may be a short-term sentiment boost that can temporarily hold the $0.07 floor.
However, to create organic demand for the token, the ecosystem will need constant usage of the application by mainnet users, repeated merchant adoption, and utility-driven transactions—otherwise, the project will just be trading the token within its existing community.
PI Breaks below Recovery Channel Pattern
Over the last three months, the PI price witnessed a steady recovery trend, resonating within the formation of a rising channel pattern. The lower boundary of this channel acted as dynamic support for buyers to recoup bullish momentum.
However, on October 7th, the coin price gave a decisive breakdown below this support, strengthening the sellers’ grip over this asset. With a 1.5% intraday jump, the PI price is likely to retest the support trendline as potential resistance.

If this new resistance holds, the sellers could drag the coin price down 13% to retest the current market low of $0.07072.
