Pi Network has moved its Protocol V27 upgrade into Testnet 2, marking another stage in the network’s planned protocol rollout. The upgrade has reportedly processed around 250 transactions per block without recorded failures during the reported testing period. At the same time, Pi’s Mainnet upgrade process is continuing as node operators move toward the newer protocol. The development follows Pi Network’s earlier Protocol 26 upgrade and the start of V27 testing on its Testnet. PI also gained more than 4% on September 21, extending a short-term recovery as the wider cryptocurrency market strengthened. However, the price move has not been directly attributed to the V27 upgrade by Pi Network, leaving the protocol development and the token’s market performance as two related but separate developments.
Did Pi Network Hit Its September 15 V27 Mainnet Target?
Protocol V27 has now entered Testnet 2, with the latest testing reportedly processing about 250 transactions per block without recorded failures. The update was reported by The Market Periodical, and Pi’s testnet monitor shows the same result, which cited the testing progress as part of Pi Network’s ongoing protocol rollout. Testnet provides a separate environment where protocol changes can be evaluated before they are applied more broadly. Pi Network has been moving through a series of protocol upgrades during 2026, with Protocol 26 previously completed on Mainnet before V27 testing began.
According to Pi Network’sofficial announcement, Protocol 27 introduces more flexible and secure smart-contract authentication capabilities. The network said the changes allow accounts and applications to use additional methods to authorize transactions, while continuing work to expand its smart-contract capabilities. The V27 testing follows Pi’s earlier Protocol 26 upgrade, which Pi described as an important step before the final planned upgrade to Protocol 27. The network had previously set September 15 as the target date for the V27 Mainnet upgrade.
The development also comes as Pi continues updating its broader developer infrastructure. Recent releases have included changes to Pi Node and SoloHost, while Pi has also continued testing applications and ecosystem features on Testnet. These developments are separate from the V27 upgrade itself but form part of the network’s wider development activity.
Community expectations around V27 have also focused on possible changes to Pi’s ecosystem. A Reddit discussion posted earlier in September asked users what they expected from the protocol update. Responses mentioned areas including DEX and automated market maker functionality, additional Pi utility and greater ecosystem liquidity.

The Reddit discussion shows some of the expectations being discussed by Pi users, but those comments do not represent confirmed features or launch plans from Pi Network. Pi has separately introduced DEX-related functionality on Testnet through its Launchpad and liquidity-pool testing, although that should not be treated as confirmation of a specific Mainnet DEX launch tied to Protocol 27. The immediate development around V27 therefore remains focused on protocol testing and the transition of the network toward the newer version, rather than on a confirmed launch of any particular application or trading feature.
Where PI Price Stands Against Its 50-Day EMA After V27
PI’s market performance has improved alongside the latest protocol development. PI traded near $0.0894 on September 21, before easing to about $0.0890 on Tuesday, after gaining more than 4% during the session. The report also placed the token’s 24-hour gain at about 5.7% at the time of publication. The move occurred during a broader recovery across the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin was trading above $85,000 during the period covered by the report, while KuCoin cited about $688 million in crypto liquidations over 24 hours. Around $598 million of those liquidations involved short positions.
The wider market context is important because the available reporting does not establish that the V27 testing directly caused PI’s price increase. The token’s movement therefore should be viewed alongside broader cryptocurrency trading conditions rather than as a confirmed market response to the protocol upgrade. PI also remained below several longer-term technical indicators despite the short-term gain. TheMarket Periodical analysis cited by KuCoin placed PI below its 50-day, 100-day and 200-day exponential moving averages. It identified the 50-day EMA near $0.0924 and a nearby support level around $0.0827.
For now, the two developments provide different pieces of information about Pi Network. Protocol V27 has progressed into Testnet 2, where the reported testing results provide an update on the network’s technical rollout. At the same time, PI has recovered from recent price weakness during a period of broader strength in cryptocurrency markets. Further protocol deployment and subsequent market activity will determine how those developments progress from here.
