Bitcoin’s (BTC) market is torn in two directions as of right now. On one hand, the money just keeps flowing in through spot exchange-traded funds, but almost all that demand is going to the largest ETFs. On the other hand, VanEck just posted a report which indicates growing signs of market capitulation. According to the report, by August 12, 8 out of 12 indicators were active warning signs of capitulation.
Moreover, looking at the corporate side, Metaplanet is moving its Bitcoin strategy into the U.S. by taking control of Super League Enterprise, which is expected to be renamed Superplanet. The new U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform is starting out with 2,100 BTC.
ETF Demand Grows as Smaller Funds Struggle
The latest figures for Bitcoin spot ETFs show demand is staying positive, but investors aren’t spreading their demands evenly as most are going for the largest products. According to SoSoValue Data, on August 18, BlackRock’s IBIT brought in $144 million of the $189 million total inflow, increasing its total net inflow up to $61.4 billion. Fidelity’s FBTC added $23.92 million the same day and now its total is up to $10.02 billion. However, things looked very different for VanEck’s HODL, recording $16.92 million outflow, remaining at a $1.07 billion historical net inflow.
Still, the overall Bitcoin spot ETF market is substantial. The total net assets are at $79.3 billion, and the net asset ratio for ETFs is 6.12% of BTC’s total market capitalization. Cumulative historical net inflows have reached $52.28 billion.
Bitcoin Faces Capitulation Signals
Meanwhile, VanEck’s latest Bitcoin market report says that 8 of 12 capitulation signals were active as of August 12. All 12 triggered at some point in the past three months. BTC’s price drop from the October 2025 peak has now lasted ten months, prompting VanEck to suggest that accumulation might be starting, or already happening. Historical cycles hint at a possible turning point between September and November.
Still, the data doesn’t point to a quick recovery. VanEck’s back tests show BTC didn’t outperform much over the next three to six months after similar capitulation events in the past. The crypto industry only saw big gains over a one-year horizon, and even then, the sample size is pretty small.
Over the last 30 days, the supply of BTC held for longer than a year dropped by about 357,000 BTC, to 11.84 million BTC, equal to 59.1% of total supply. During this time, U.S. spot BTC ETPs recorded about $663 million in net inflows, and 30-day realized volatility fell to 27.2%.
Metaplanet Takes Control of Super League to Launch U.S. Bitcoin Treasury Platform
In other news, Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich announced today, August 19, 2026, that the company is going to acquire a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise. At the time of closing, the Nasdaq-list company will be known as Superplanet.
Superplanet’s launch will get a push from 2,100 BTC taken from Metaplanet’s existing holdings. Metaplanet says that this number is less than its 5% of total BTC, and it might add even more if the platform grows. The deal is part of Metaplanet’s plan to establish Superplanet as its U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform, while it keeps raising funds through Metaplanet in Japan.
Metaplanet’s whole strategy is to leverage both the U.S. and Japan treasuries to boost its overall BTC holdings. Superplanet can now raise capital in the U.S., while Metaplanet keeps working in Japan. Plus, the U.S. branch can also acquire other American Bitcoin treasury assets.
Conclusion
It is clear that Bitcoin’s current picture is mixed. ETF demand is still providing support, but the fact that most inflows are concentrated in the largest funds shows that investor appetite remains selective. At the same time, VanEck’s capitulation signals suggest that the market may be moving closer to a potential turning point, to an immediate recovery. This leaves Bitcoin in a phase where fresh institutional demand is meeting continued selling and distribution.
Moreover, while Bitcoin is showing signs of capitulation, corporate interest in holding the asset remains strong. Metaplanet is taking this approach further by expanding its Bitcoin treasury strategy into the U.S. through Superplanet, which will launch with 2,100 BTC.
