According to the latest update, the Solana Foundation postponed the opening event of its Solana Accelerate China 2026 tour in Shanghai on the morning of October 16. Organizers officially blamed the delay on venue logistics, but participants reported that local law enforcement had arrived on-site, causing heavy entry delays.
The Shanghai gathering was the first stop of a four-city series scheduled from October 16 to 22, with follow-up events planned in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing. The event is expected to discuss various technologies, including AI agents, robotics, physical AI, stablecoins, payments, and developer communities rather than token trading or speculation.
Why Solana Accelerate China 2026 in Shanghai Was Postponed
Organizers sent an email to registered attendees stating that the morning agenda was postponed due to “logistical considerations at the venue.” They said a new schedule would be confirmed later and apologized for the short notice. However, no immediate replacement date was announced.
Attendees reported that 8 or 9 law enforcement officers were present at the Shangri-La Hotel. Some said they waited outside for more than an hour, or up to 90 minutes, without gaining entry. Chinese officials did not issue a public statement on the matter at the time.
Solana Foundation President Lily Liu explained on X, saying that “Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we had registered with local authorities, and we had no way to prevent people from overwhelming the venue. So, in order to comply with local requirements, we are going to postpone this event for when we can better accommodate the breadth and scale of our community.”
This was not the first disruption for a Solana event in mainland China. A previous Accelerate APAC event in Shenzhen in October 2025 was cut short after a police inquiry, which organizers attributed to overcrowding and public safety concerns.
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of the Solana event in China. He wrote on X, “Sad to see. Looks like they really didn’t know the local policies? But it’s not the first time either; the same thing happened less than a year ago.”
What is Solana Accelerate China 2026
Solana Accelerate China is the event that brings together developers, founders, investors, and technical teams from China and the global Solana ecosystem. The Shanghai agenda, set for the Shangri-La Hotel, included keynotes, panels, and fireside chats. Solana Foundation President Lily Liu was scheduled to deliver opening remarks on the state of the network and internet capital markets, followed by a fireside chat.
Solana had recently publicized a new office in a high-rise in Shanghai’s Pudong district and ran prominent advertising campaigns, including a large digital display on a major building.
Before the event, Solana executives had promoted the China tour and office opening. Lily Liu has posted about the four-city schedule earlier, describing it as a chance to showcase internet capital markets and celebrate the builder community after a successful previous roadshow.
CZ also commented a few days ago on Solana’s ability to advertise and secure office space in China, noting that BNB Chain had not achieved the same so far.
China maintains strict restrictions on cryptocurrency-related business activities, with bans on trading and mining in place since 2021, along with official notices. Earlier this year, China called RWA tokenization an illegal financial activity with no approval from regulators. The event’s agenda avoided direct reference to token issuance or secondary market trading; instead, it is focused on technology and real-world applications.
The remaining stops in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing remain on the schedule as of the latest reports, though the Shanghai incident has raised questions about the overall tour. Organizers have not provided further details on a rescheduled Shanghai date.
