Save the Children announces innovative, #Bitcoin-powered humanitarian solution.

“Out-of-the-box solutions are essential to ensure we continue to be there for children when they need us most,” said @save_children‘s Janti Soeripto.https://t.co/2i8JjSJbn1

As the world’s top independent children’s rights group, Save the Children is building on its long history of innovation. It first began accepting cryptocurrency donations back in 2013.

According to the official announcement, the newly launched Bitcoin Fund will enable Save the Children to securely hold Bitcoin donations for up to 4 years.

How the Bitcoin Fund Will Benefit Save the Children in Aid Delivery

This fund is much more than a simple way to donate. It is a full plan to use Bitcoin within the organization’s core emergency programs.

The main goal is to improve “cash and voucher assistance.” This is a method where people in crisis receive money or vouchers to buy exactly what they need. Bitcoin’s technology allows this money to be sent across borders almost instantly with very low fees.

Every donation can be tracked publicly on the Bitcoin blockchain. This means donors can see exactly how their money is used. Donors in the United States may also benefit from tax advantages when donating appreciated Bitcoin.

The rollout of the fund will happen in stages. The first phase starts now.

It invites major donors and institutions to participate by contacting a dedicated email address. The first money raised will go to urgent needs.

This includes child nutrition in war zones and education programs in areas destroyed by drought.

Save the Children US President and CEO Janti Soeripto, stated in the press release,“Out-of-the-box solutions are essential to ensure we continue to be there for children when they need us most—especially when traditional foreign aid funding falters.

“This innovation integrates the speed, cost-efficiency and financial inclusion of blockchain-based tools to strengthen Save the Children’s emergency response and long-term development programs for kids in the U.S and around the world,” he said.

Save the Children has worked there since 2013. The group will partner with a technology company called Fedi Inc. They will distribute Bitcoin through a mobile app to chosen communities. This gives people direct control over the funds. They can spend, save, or hold the money at any time without needing a bank.

Save the Children is not new to cryptocurrency. In 2013, after a massive typhoon hit the Philippines, the group became the first major international charity to accept Bitcoin donations. That early move funded emergency shelters and medical supplies.

Today, the organization accepts over 60 different digital currencies. These funds have supported victims of the war in Ukraine and funded an innovation hub in Rwanda.

More than Money: How Crypto is Reinventing Charity

Over the years, the cryptocurrency are rapidly becoming a better alternative option for charity-based organizations. The reason behind this change is that traditional aid systems have many issues, including slow transfer speed, high costs, and a lack of clear tracking.

Cryptocurrency can resolve these problems. This allows money to move quickly across borders with fees much lower than traditional banks. The transparent nature of blockchain technology also reduces the risk of funds being misused.

Other charities are also following similar footsteps and exploring options to adopt cryptocurrency. UNICEF has a venture fund that gives grants in cryptocurrency. Groups like GiveDirectly and Heifer International also use crypto to deliver aid directly to people in need, from Kenya to Honduras.
