Key Highlights:
- The U.S. SEC is expected to offer its verdict on 16 crypto ETF applications in October.
- These include XRP, Solana, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Hedera, and Cardano ETF filings by prominent asset managers.
- Some deadlines extend into November, which concerns Franklin Templeton’s XRP and SOL ETF filings.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently gearing up to issue evaluations on a slew of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track cryptocurrencies this month, which may result in the alteration of the altcoin investment sector. As tracked by Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart, there are at least 16 varied filings that will encounter their final due dates in the coming weeks and will involve assets including Solana and XRP, along with Litecoin and Dogecoin.
Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst Eric Balchunas set the tone for the next month with a newly coined word: “Cointober.” On X, Balchunas wrote, “Who’s ready for Cointober? Spot crypto ETF Deadlines start this week! Litecoin and Solana up first. Should be a wild month.”
Litecoin, Solana, XRP & Other Crypto ETFs Enter SEC Review
Canary Litecoin ETF, filed on October 15, 2024, is the first one awaiting the SEC’s decision. The 1940-4 paperwork was then filed on January 16, 2025. Now, the final decision of the SEC has to be issued by October 2, 2025.

Grayscale is also just a few days away from its deadline to convert its Solana Trust to a spot Solana ETF (GSOL) on October 10, 2025. The first step towards expansion, this is filed in December 2024 and will expand Grayscale to offer more than just Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETF products. The regulator will also have to rule on the conversion of the Grayscale Litecoin Trust on the same date.
The SEC calendar is also busy all month long with major deadlines, including:
- Bitwise Solana ETF verdict on October 10, 2025.
- VanEck Solana Trust ruling by October 10, 2025.
- 21Shares Core Solana ETF deadline on October 10, 2025.
- Grayscale XRP ETF ruling on October 18, 2025.
- 21Shares XRP ETF deadline on October 19, 2025.
- Bitwise XRP ETF verdict on October 20.
- CoinShares Litecoin ETF decision by October 23, 2025.
- Franklin Solana ETF ruling by November 14, 2025, but an early verdict may be made.
At the XRP end, there are a series of filings that have been scheduled with deadlines in mid-to-late October. Canary, Bitwise, CoinShares, and Franklin have spot XRP ETF submissions, each of which must be resolved between October 19 and October 23, 2025. The WisdomTree XRP Fund completes the group of funds with a deadline of October 24, 2025.
Dogecoin has also been put on the list with the conversion of the Grayscale Dogecoin Trust scheduled to a decision on October 18, 2025. The Cardano is also represented: the conversion of the Grayscale Cardano Trust will take place on October 23, 2025.
Analysts Seek Possible Market Effect
The tsunami of time limits has come under critical scrutiny from market observers. Nate Geraci, who is the president of NovaDius Wealth Management, noted the condensation of decisions in a brief duration of time. In a post on X, he said it will be an “enormous next few weeks for spot crypto ETFs,” insisting that the window starts with the Canary Litecoin decision. He added further that approvals could extend across “SOL, DOGE, XRP, ADA, & HBAR ETFs, though the SEC can approve any or all of these whenever.”
Another angle was taken by Crypto trader, Daan Crypto Trades, who described October as “ETF month.” However, he cautioned that two dominant firms are notably absent. He wrote, “None of the ones with the deadline in October were issued by Fidelity or BlackRock, which are the two major players in the Crypto ETF space. Regardless, there might be something to watch out for in the weeks ahead.”
In March, Seyffart had estimated that in 2025, there was a “90% or greater” chance of these spot crypto ETFs being approved by the SEC and pointed to expectations of a massive growth in regulated crypto investment products.
