Bybit CEO Ben Zhou thinks that DApps are the gateway to Web3 and not wallets as stated in one of his interviews with PANews’ Editor-in-Chief Tongtong. This belief is driving the company’s product strategy and crypto industry vision.
Zhou, who has been brought up in New Zealand and US, also believes that the key to mass adoption lies in focusing on user experience and practical applications rather than just the infrastructure.

Even though the involvement of wallets cannot be ignored, from simple Bitcoin storage tools to complex multi-chain assets management platforms, Zhou argues that the wallets do not drive engagement or long-term value creation in the Web3 ecosystem. However, decentralized applications (DApps) are the true and main entry points that attract and retain users by offering utility and interactive experiences.
User Experience Over Infrastructure
During the interview, Zhou also gave insights and shared how Bybit has always aimed to follow market trends while making sure that the products are tailored to the local user preferences. This suggests that the company focuses more on the user-friendly approach rather than chasing the hype.
This led Bybit to abandon its Web3 wallet business, and chose to instead focus on integrating DApp access. The main goal here for Bybit is to build a comprehensive one-stop asset management platform. The CEO wants this platform to cover all asset categories, including crypto, precious metals, and U.S. stocks- offering every possible service under one roof.
Leadership in Crisis
Zhou represented his leadership skills during Bybit’s $1.4 billion hack back in February 2025. He responded within 30 minutes of the exploit, and was communicating openly with the community and was personally overseeing the security upgrades. This approach reflects the same focus and determination he now applies on Bybit’s strategic transformation.
Global Expansion of Bybit
Bybit has been expanding globally, seeking product diversification and is driven by Zhou’s clear vision: “Doing the right things and doing them the best.” He firmly believes that making DApps the true entrance to Web3 will lower barriers, enhance accessibility, and unlock the full potential of decentralized technologies for users worldwide.
